Sage for Wisdom

Sage

Sage (Salvia officinalis)

Herbal Usage~

Sage is a Perennial that can be potted but requires good drainage.  Leaves can be used to flavor stuffing, sausage, cheese or bean dishes.  Drink as a tea in the late afternoon as it alleviates mental exhaustion and reinvigorates the brain.  Caution:  Do not use Sage if you have a history of seizure disorder, are pregnant or lactating milk or are anemic. (Low iron)

Folk Lore~

Eat Sage in May if you would like to live a long life with your husband.  But don’t ever let Sage bloom as it will bring bad luck to your family.

When someone you love leaves on a long journey hang a sprig of Sage and watch it.  As long as it remains healthy your loved one is well and happy.  Sage is a symbol of wisdom and will strengthen a memory.
